The GO! READ Project promotes literacy by organizing volunteers to read aloud to children and give them free new books in the fall and spring. By creating personal home libraries, the project encourages children to read outside the classroom and supports family involvement.

The Covid-19 pandemic prompt school closings and safety concerns for the well-being of everyone, especially our volunteers, who unfortunately weren’t able to return to the classrooms for two years.
We created the YouTube channel O100 GO! READ to continue reading to children with the hope that everyone will find some comfort and joy in listening to these wonderful stories virtually during these challenging times. Our channel continues to grow, as we slowly return to in-person reading.
STAY SAFE! GO! READ
Pa Akaka believed in the importance of literacy and the value of a good education. He regularly joined us on reading visits. He loved talking to the children about the importance of reading and seeing their excited faces being read to and especially when he handed them their very own book, and telling them it’s theirs to keep. He said it is so simple, “just GO! READ”
I do believe something magical can happen when you read a good book.
